I’m excited to announce that the book launch party for A Lesson in Manners will be part of Muscatine’s inaugural Second Saturday event on June 11. Come to the Muscatine History and Industry Center between 5 and 8 pm to say hello, enjoy an English tea, and enter your name in drawings for prizes inspired by the stories. There will be a reading of Vintage Etiquette and advice at 5:30, a demonstration of proper place settings at 6, a deportment competition at 6:30, and a reading from the book at 7, followed by an author Q/A and drawings for prizes. Buy a book, get it signed, and enter your name in the grand prize drawing as well!
To celebrate the launch, I’m inviting all fans of Manners and fellow short story writers to write a story based on the book. The challenge is to select three prompts based on people, places, and items in the stories, then write a story of up to 2,000 words and submit it to the website. The deadline is July 15, and winners will receive a free, signed copy of the book as well as publication on this website. It’s free fun! I can’t wait to hear what everyone comes up with.
